名古屋市で作陶を続ける、谷口治先生による穴窯焼成の志野茶碗です。

谷口先生は、現代茶陶展、美濃茶盌展、東海伝統工芸展などで入選・受賞を重ねる実力派の陶芸家です。名古屋の老舗美術商・伊藤美術店では、2026年9月にも個展が開催されるなど、その作品は高く評価されています。

本作は、穴窯で焼成され、淡い緋色を帯びた土肌に白志野釉を厚く掛け、表面には細かな柚子肌が広がる表情豊かな志野茶碗です。柔らかな白釉の合間から緋色の土肌が覗き、随所に施された黒褐色の鉄絵が力強い景色を生み出しています。白・緋・黒が複雑に重なり、見る角度によってさまざまな表情を楽しめます。また、大きく波打つ口縁と力強い胴の造形も特徴的。見込みは穏やかな白釉に包まれ、外側とは対照的な落ち着いた表情を見せています。

This is a Shino tea bowl fired in a traditional wood-fired anagama kiln by Osamu Taniguchi, who continues to create ceramics in Nagoya, Japan.

Taniguchi is a highly regarded ceramic artist whose works have been selected for and received awards at exhibitions including the Contemporary Tea Ceremony Ceramics Exhibition, the Mino Tea Bowl Exhibition, and the Tokai Traditional Craft Exhibition. His work has also been highly acclaimed at Ito Bijutsuten, a long-established art dealer in Nagoya, where he held a solo exhibition in September 2026.

Fired in an anagama kiln, this bowl features a pale reddish clay body covered with a thick layer of white Shino glaze, creating a rich surface with a fine yuzuhada (yuzu-skin) texture. The reddish clay subtly emerges through the soft white glaze, while dark brown iron decoration provides a striking contrast. The interplay of white, red, and dark brown creates a dynamic landscape that reveals different expressions as the bowl is viewed from various angles. The dramatically undulating rim and powerful body shape are also distinctive features. In contrast, the interior is covered in a calm white glaze, offering a more subdued expression.
