A guinomi (sake cup) of Kawakujira-Karatsu, wood-fired in an anagama kiln, created by Tasuku Mitsufuji.

皮鯨（かわくじら）は、口縁部に黒い縁取りをあしらった焼き物で、名の由来は口縁部の黒を鯨の皮（背中側）、うつわ本体の白～灰色を鯨の身（腹側）になぞらえたことによります。
"Kawakujira" refers to a style of pottery in which the rim is accented with a black band. The name derives from the resemblance: the black rim suggests the whale’s back (skin), while the white to gray body of the vessel evokes the whale’s underside (flesh).

光沢を持ちながらも少しザラっとした表面の梅花皮（かいらぎ）が、まるで鯨の皮膚のようでもあります。
The lustrous yet slightly rough "kairagi" on the surface further enhances the impression of a whale’s skin.
